01/09/2021 – Morning & Afternoon shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

We collected Fela from his home just before 9:30, had a quick handover with Claire, packed the car and left around 9:40 for the hospital. He was in a good mood. The key features of the day were as follows:

  • We stopped at Hilton park services as usual so Fela could go to the loo. He requested the loo just as we were approaching so he was used to the routine by now.
  • We arrived at the hospital early at 11:15. The nurses had anticipated our arrival and we were ushered into a room on our own.
  • the nurses removed Fela’s bandages; two had seen him last week and commented that he looked a lot better and the keloids were progressively shrinking and falling off as to be expected. Good job, team! Fela was calm and very compliant throughout the process.
  • After we left the hospital at 12:00, we stopped at Grove park on A4040 to have lunch on a park bench. We were surrounded by lovely Silverbirch trees.
  • Fela and I went for a quick 10 minute walk around the park before we left.
  • We drove home after leaving Birmingham at 13:00 and arrived home at 15:00. We stopped at Hilton park services again to use the loo.
  • Fela seemed to be dropping off after 14:00 but he managed to stay awake.
  • Fela had his last antibiotic at 14:35 with the water he requested.
  • After returning home, we had a snack then we did the board and Fela chose to nap.
  • Fela was allowed to sleep and rest for 1 hour. When he awoke he still looked sluggish, and did not want to do any further activities on the board i.e. storytime and makaton.
  • We rang Nanna Hazel and updated her on the hospital visit. Fela thanked her for her good wishes and said good bye and blew her kisses. We also sang her the ‘I love you’ song.
  • We ordered fish and chips takeaway from Milton chippy for dinner. Fela had a muffin and some ice cream for dessert and was delighted.
  • After dinner, Fela surprisingly pointed to T.D. jakes on youtube and insisted he wanted to watch him.
  • He also went into the kitchen at 19:30 and asked for tea so I gave him his Sleepwell tea early.
  • He is now relaxing in the bath.

All in all, a positive and busy day.
