04/08/2020 – Morning shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

On arrival at Fela’s, he was in the shower. I had a handover with Claire that he had had a disturbed night but slept for a total of about seven hours. Fela was slow at doing his morning routine, and was down for breakfast around 10:30. I think Fela was also listening in to the conversations staff were having being such an inquisitive person; also no doubt he is getting used to Alicia’s voice.

I did the board with him as he was finishing his tea. He seemed okay with the activities. After breakfast, he went to sit on the settee, and requested a blanket and his DVD folder. He chose his current favourite – Little Women. I explained to Fela that he could watch it when we came back home after lunch. I took the DVD case out of the footstool and put it on the TV console unit to reassure him that he would be watching it later. He seemed satisfied with that.

Amy drove us to Tunstall Park along High Lane, Burslem and down Greenway Road to the car park which I didn’t know existed. It is located within the park itself so is very safe, and there’s a disabled parking space. We walked briskly around the park. Fela was all smiles, and insisted on holding my hand most of the time. I could tell he was in a hurry to get back to the car. He worked up quite a sweat so once in the car, I asked him if he wanted to change his clothes. He seemed keen so we changed his shirt and jumper. Then he had his water.

We stopped off at the Butcher’s on the way home. I went in and bought the meat for the week. We arrived home just before 13:30 and Fela used the loo then had his lunch of cheese and tomato salad sandwiches which he enjoyed. He was requesting rice pudding after, but I told him he could have some after dinner later. On my departure, he was just about to leave the table, and will no doubt be starting his film of choice.

All in all, a pleasant morning shift with Fela, Amy and Alicia!
