05/07/2020 – Day shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

When Fela arrived on shift he was very noisy but did not appear to be unhappy. Claire passed over that he had a red alert so I knew he was overly tired. It took him a while to take his shoes off. I asked him whether he wanted to go upstairs or stay downstairs. He chose to go upstairs so I did the board with him upstairs whilst he had his tea and diluted orange juice which he requested. Some sleepy jazz was playing softly on youtube when he arrived.

I offered him a hand rub, then turned it into a manicure which included cutting of fingernails, filing of nails and rough skin with an emery board and applying emu oil for its antibacterial and healing properties. Fela’s eyes were getting heavy so I decided to prompt him to lie down on the red settee with the blanket covering him snugly. I massaged his forehead and behind his ears with some olbas oil as I noticed his nose had been running slightly. I then offered him an eye mask as the room was quite bright even with the blinds down. I left Fela to rest from 10:45 -11:45. I checked  on him after 30 minutes as he was making noise, with his eyes half closed, he asked for ‘5’ in a very assertive manner so he obviously did not want to be disturbed.

Fela had a late snack of a small container of nuts followed by his lunch at 12:45. Fela seemed to enjoy his corn on the cob, veg, steak and sweet potato fries. He also relished his ice cream and cake for afters.

I did the board with Fela again after lunch. He was content to watch the Breathe New Life church service on line. We enjoyed singing and dancing to the hymn ‘I will raise a hallelujah’. Fela was scratching his face a lot so I gave him a facial trim once the service was over. This was followed by a hair cut. I then offered him aloe gel, aloe propolis and keloid cream in stages as the rest of the shift wore on as he was still prone to scratching. He was admiring himself in the mirror when we danced intermittently to music playing on youtube mainly from ‘The lighthouse family’, Michael Bolton and M people.

I did the board to show that Emma and Zoe would be coming soon to pick him up and take him home. Fela was very relaxed at this point so I read him two prayers/poems from his ‘365 bible Stories and Prayers’ book about friends and how different they are. I felt he was in a good state of mind, so I read the social story about Paige leaving. There was never a good time to read it before when he visited on a Sunday as he would usually fall asleep in the afternoon. I decided it would be good to do it before he meets Amy on Friday. Once read, it was put away so he would not dwell on it.

Emma and Zoe came to collect him at 16:45. He seemed relaxed, and content to return home.
