05/08/2020 – Evening shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

Fela was on the settee watching ‘Little Women’ on my arrival. I had handover with Claire and Amy who indicated that he had been having a good day. I noticed he was scratching his keloids so I offered him some cotton pads with witchhazel solution so he could wipe himself. Afterwards, I squirted some aloe vera gel on the keloids which he rubbed in himself. After Claire left, I went to do the board with Fela but he asked to lie down on the settee and requested the HANDLE spikey ball on his head. I did a few minutes of rolling it on his head, then left him as he fell asleep immediately. I was going to let him sleep for half an hour but he woke naturally after 15 minutes. This was when the DVD ended; I had left it running on a low volume as I sensed that pausing it might wake Fela

After he woke, I did the board with him and offered to give him a pedicure. He was full of smiles as I did it whilst he listened to nature sounds on Plex. I gave Amy a few tips as she cooked the evening meal of cod kedegeree with boiled egg and rice. She did an excellent job, and said it was delicious. Fela also seemed to enjoy it immensely. Thanks to Claire who , before she left, gave her written directions on the steps to take with the meal preparation.

After dinner, Fela was happy for me to give him a manicure as he listened to summer jazz on youtube. Fela did not want to do walk at home after all but requested to lie down again. I decided to read to him and started the new book ‘Wind in the Willows’ whilst sitting next to him. I tried to be as dramatic as I could whilst nudging him in the sides to keep him awake. Amy found it very amusing.

Fela perked up during his snack which was toast with peanut butter an a bit of jam. He had requested this after dinner. I also made him hot chocolate with cinnamon. After his snack, I tried engaging Fela in some ballroom dancing for about 10 minutes. He listened to summertime jazz for the rest of the evening on the settee as he clearly had no energy to rock in his chair. Fela entered the bath at 21:00, had his shampoo and face scrub, then enjoyed a lovely soak. I kept checking on him as he was nearly falling asleep. I prompted him out of the bath at 21:50 then gave him his tincture at 22:00 before going upstairs to complete his evening routine.
