We left Fela’s home just before 9:45 but had to return to Green Pastures because we forgot Dr. Singh’s gift bag. Fela was happy and excited. We arrived at Hilton Park services around 10:30 where we had a toilet break. On return to the car, Fela had his snack but I delayed his water until after his consultation with Dr. Singh which was slightly later than booked.
Dr. Singh was very impressed with the progress of Fela’s facial recovery, and said there should be further shrinkage and falling away of the remaining keloids over the next months. He wants to see Fela again in February and anticipates having to do another surgery next summer. He recommended Fela use E45 or a similar cream to moisturise his face and that he can resume all activities including swimming as usual. He was understandably modest about receiving his gift bag which Fela handed to him.
We headed for lunch at Toby’s carvery where Fela had a go large carvery with three meats and all the trimmings followed by 3 scoops of raspberry sorbet which he chose from the menu. Michael took the long route home through the countryside including Kidderminster, Telford and Market Dreighton. We left Birmingham at 13:35 and reached home at 16:20. Fela was happy throughout but did not have a nap.
Fela had his fruit snack at home and then I did the board with him. He chose T.D. Jakes preaching after some jazz music by Michael Franks and George Benson. I telephoned Nanna Hazel to tell her about the consultation. Fela blew her a kiss and said goodbye as she had to rush off.
After dinner, Fela became noisy for about 10 minutes but soon settled down when I prompted him to remove his jumper and put on some of the music he really likes – Backstreet Boys and N’Sync. He only danced to one song with me, and was not keen on throwing or rolling the gym ball to me so I removed the card from the board as I thought this was adding to his unease. He requested manicure before dinner so after his snack I gave him a quick facial trim followed by a basic manicure – he found both very relaxing and looked as if he was going to fall asleep.
At the moment he is relaxing in the bath. I will go and help him finish off his bath and evening routine. All in all it has been a happy and exciting day for Fela full of adventure with a positive report from Dr. Singh.
