06/05/2021 – Day shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

Fela arrived at Green Pastures with Michael at 9:30. He looked happy and relaxed.

We did the board upstairs, and I showed him a print-out of pictures of machines in the gym so that he understood where we would be going. He was happy with the options. We left for the Wallace sports Centre after his snack. Fela entered the building with enthusiasm and I could hardly keep up with him. He went straight for the arm cycle machine with the whooshing water which he kept looking at as he was moving his arms. He asked for the car after 10 minutes but we encouraged him to do some more. He went to the ski machine, then the rowing machine and ended with the treadmill. All in all, he worked out for 40 minutes. Well done, Fela. I prompted him to change his clothes then we headed for home where he had a late lunch of leftover lamb meatballs [He had been asking Michael for lamb on the way to Green Pastures].

Fela lingered on the dining table for more than half an hour after eating as he was clearly tired from his workout. I prompted Fela to the armchair where he watched a short video of a personal trainer, Wendy Ida, as he fitted in workouts and chose healthy meals as she was travelling. Fela went upstairs to the loo just as it was ending.

We rang Nanna Hazel in Barbados, and Fela was eavesdropping on the conversation with a big smile. He said “Hello Nanna” and “I love you” and blew kisses with his bye bye. She was pleased. Fela was not interested in writing so we had his yogurt and fruit snack which he seemed to enjoy a lot. I then offered to give him a haircut which he was very keen to have. I also put some conditioning gel on his fingernails.

After his haircut, I gave Fela a mirror so he could admire himself. He kept looking away from the mirror even though he was holding it up which was very amusing. We quickly practised some makaton signs for food – soup, porridge, yogurt, fruit e.g. strawberry, melon, kiwi. We ended this session with the sign for shoes as I prompted him to go and put his shoes on in preparation for the arrival of Zoe and Teresa. They were unavoidably delayed due to traffic caused by roadworks on the Norton China intersection. Michael reminded them to avoid this by going the long route through Endon and Brown Edge.

We danced to some songs by Maxwell, ‘Earth, Wind and Fire’ and Justin Timberlake whilst waiting. They arrived just before 17:30 and Fela left in a good mood.
