08/09/2019 – Afternoon shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

After lunch Fela took a while to get off the chair as he scratched his left  keloids and they began to bleed so  Michael and I administered witch hazel soultion and broke off a piece of aloe vera plant for him to rub on to the cut. He found this soothing and it stopped the bleeding. I then applied some plasters.

He chose to go upstairs to sit on the red settee. When I brought him his snack of just drinks – lemon, ginger and honey tea with pear and apple tea bag, and diluted pineapple juice, this roused him as he was beginning to drop off. I did the TEACCH board with Fela as he was having his snack.

After his snack, I prompted him to lie on the settee an he requested his blanket. I left the soothing voices of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong on softly in the background and pulled the blinds down. Fela was allowed to sleep for 1 hour from 4-5pm.

Unfortunately, due to Fela’s sleep and sluggishness the whole afternoon, he did not get to watch and assist Michael assemble and re-inforce his rocking chair, nor help Mama bake a cake. It was as if his bottom was magnetically attached to the red settee. He also enjoyed operating and  fidgeting with the mini fan kept in Mama’s office. I tried Nana Hazel but her phone did not ring so Fela was not able to speak to her.

Fela kept scratching and picking at his keloids throughout the afternoon so I helped him self-administer witchhazel solution and aloe propolis cream repeatedly.

Fela was not interested in engaging in dancing with mum and requested to go upstairs. I figured he was still recovering from his cold. when Emma arrived to collect and transport Fela’s chair, Fela seemed reluctant to leave and became slightly vocal but once he was in Michael’s car, he was smiling again, and was smiling again when we left him in the bath. All in all, a positive afternoon with Fela who was quiet and amenable throughout.
