On arrival, Claire was playing cards with Fela as he was sitting on the settee. Fela looked settled even though he only had about four hours sleep. Claire handed over that he had had a disturbed night.
When she left, we did the board with Fela using his new TEACCH cards. He removed from the folder two cards ‘Emma sleeping’ and ‘cinema’ which he wanted me to put on the board. I explained that they would be for another day. Fela was okay with going to Knypersley Reservoir. We set off just before 10:30 as we thought it best to get him exercised before it became hot and Fela became tired.
We had a brisk walk of around 35 minutes total with a break in between to have his drink and snack. Fela requested to sit on the bench after 25 minutes of walking so we had them there. Fela was vocal throughout the walk. We stopped at our house on the way back to pick up a few things.
Fela enjoyed a lovely lunch of leftover meat balls with red lentil pasta. He requested rice pudding in a bowl but I explained that this would be after dinner later. i put on some relaxing beach sounds music on the background from the Relax channel.
Alicia arrived early so we had a handover and she quickly got stuck in with the household tasks, and was happy to do mine. Thanks a lot, Alicia! We decided to offer Fela a puzzle on his board even though he was looking a bit tired. He seemed happy with the board.
We showed Fela the singing hands makaton video of pets whilst Alicia and I signed with him. We decided to start the puzzle on the floor whilst Fela watched. Fela was smiling as we struggled to find the pieces. I gave him his manual fan after putting new batteries in. He was playing with this, and his fidget ball which expands, then fell asleep at 3:00. We drew the curtains and removed and disconnected the phones and let Fela sleep for an hour. He woke up automatically after the hour. We offered him his snack around 16:15. at the time of writing, he is finishing his late snack, and is quite vocal.
All in all, it has been a pleasant shift with Fela and Alicia.
