11/03/2021 – Day shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

When I arrived Zoe had just left due to sudden illness. Fela was finishing his supplements after waking late. We put on some music for him – ‘soul Man’ CD and did the board. I then gave him a manicure which he enjoyed.

After his snack, we drove to Burslem park and I encouraged Fela to follow me around the climbing frame made of rope in the playground. It involved skills of balance and flexibility.  We went around twice in and out of the ropes then we continued walking briskly around the park. The weather kept changing – sometimes rainy, sometimes windy, sometimes sunny.

We returned home and had lunch of beef and onion sandwiches. I fried plantain which I brought as a treat for Fela. He really enjoyed it.

We did makaton signing of days of the week with Singing Hands. We did it three times and Fela did brilliantly. Emma then supervised his writing the prayer for Thursday. We then watched the Spice Girls song ‘Mama I love you’ with signs. Fela is quite good at the chorus.

In between chores, I applied tiger balm to Fela’s chest, back, forehead and behind his ears. He coughed a bit at the table so we reckoned he needed it. I read him a prayer after his snack, then we sang it ‘Day by day, dear Lord, of Thee three things I pray – to see Thee more clearly, love Thee more dearly, follow thee more nearly day by day.”

Fela is relaxing in his rocking chair and listening to soft rock love songs on youtube at the time of my departure.
