Shift Report:

Fela seemed to enjoy his bath as he was lying down practically submerged when I went to attend to him. He was in bed and lights out by 22:45. I made sure to apply Tiger balm to Fela’s chest back, back of neck and ears. The fan was left on low, and 12 hours of ‘Soul Soothing’ music from youtube left on in the background.

I checked on Fela twice in the night but didn’t hear anything from him until 4:30. He was very noisy and was asking for refreshments [see arousal report]. I gave him a little something for his throat, and told him the other things he requested would come later when he woke up, but it was still time to sleep. He settled and was back in bed, lying down again by 5:00. I didn’t hear anything from him until I went up to wake him at 7:50.

He had his refreshments and supplements at 8:00 and was slow processing for the rest of the morning. He was blowing his nose quite a bit and engaging in a lot of touching rituals. He was down for breakfast at 9:15. Fela was finishing off his supplements when Claire, Nadia and Daniel came to fetch him just after 9:30. I had a quick handover with them, especially about introducing Echinacea on a PRN (as and required) basis. We decided to give Fela an echinacea capsule in light of his symptoms and being very vocal. When they left Green Pastures 10 minutes later, he seemed in a happier mood and we saw some smiles.

Arousal States – Start: 1 Baseline End: 1 Baseline Did his state change? Yes to 3 – Very Noisy Fela woke at 4:30. He was very noisy and kept asking for juice ,orange and honey. I concluded that his throat may have been dry and itchy as I awoke with these symptoms so, after due consideration I gave him a teaspoon of honey and half a banana when he returned to bed. I did not want to give him any liquid as it would no doubt stimulate his bladder too early in the morning. Did he have a bowel movement? No Bristol score: Was Fela incontinent?: No Did he have vigorous exercise?: –
