16/04/2021 – Day & Evening shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

Michael and I arrived at 9:00, and Emma informed me that Fela was in the shower. He seemed to be in a good mood. I supported him to complete his evening routine and he was downstairs for his breakfast at 10:00. Afterwards, he chose to listen to ‘The Drifters’ then we did the board. I offered him the choice between a walk or scooter. He chose the scooter card.

Fela was slow processing this morning so wed didn’t get out until 12:00. We walked with the scooters to Bur Tree playground off Chillington Way, off Bellerton Lane. It took ten minutes to get there. Once there, Fela and I scootered for one hour. Michael was on foot, and watched our antics whilst guarding the bags. Fela kept stopping to touch the rails, but he did well to keep going. Fortunately, the play area was not busy. I spoke to the parent/guardians with their children to ask if it was okay to just go around the inner perimeter of the rails. They said it was fine.

After returning home and having lunch – leftover chicken curry with pasta followed with some mixed nuts, we did the board again. I offered Fela the option of resting on the sofa. He chose this, and fell asleep as soon as his head touched the cushion. There were sea sounds and images playing softly on youtube which he seemed to find soothing.

Michael and I heard Fela get up and take himself to the loo, do a big wee, then return to the sofa and went back to sleep. He slept for a total of one hour and 30 minutes. Teresa arrived soon after. Michael left to return home. It took a while to get Fela off the loo. Teresa enticed him with the promise of a snack – some chopped fruit.

We then did the board and Fela chose ‘meals’, ‘dinner’ and ‘DVD’. We offered him some HANDLE and a manicure to which he gave a thumbs up. He enjoyed his dinner of spicy meatballs and red lentil spaghetti followed by gingerbread men and a little ice cream. He chose to watch ‘Happy Feet’ and ‘Happy Feet 2’ but when push came to shove, he chose the second one.

Just before Michael arrived, Fela was saying a new word ‘coree’. Before our departure at 21:00, it dawned on us that he meant ‘curry’. He was very pleased that we finally figured it out.

*Barbra was unable to come for her afternoon shift due to a family emergency.
