19/07/2020 – Sleep shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

*Sorry this is late. I left Fela’s at 9:45 and then stopped off somewhere before returning home.

When I arrived at Fela’s, it was 21:45 and he was still in the bath. Claire kindly offered to stay as long as I needed and assisted Fela in getting out the bath and administering his tincture. He was in a good mood and remained so throughout the shift. Fela took a while to pee before getting into bed, probably because he had already done so downstairs after getting out the bath. But he persevered despite my persistent inquiries as to whether he was finished. Fela was in bed by 22:50 after saying his bedtime prayer and my assisting him to put on his new black silk eye mask[there are 3 of them with adjustable straps]. He had no problem with having it on, and I demonstrated to him that he can lift it up slightly when he needs to see to go to the loo, then pull it back down to sleep.

*Fela now has 3 black, silk eye masks with adjustable straps. They are to be washed only as needed on a short, delicate cycle or hand washed ONLY when necessary.

I didn’t hear anything from Fela until 6:30 when I went to greet him. His eyes were open but he looked half asleep. Chloe kindly assisted me in tracking back on his camera to see when he was awake in the night. At 23:15 he turned over and his eyes looked closed. At 12:25 his legs were up and he was moving them from side to side. At 12: 28, his legs were back down and his eyes closed. At 5:10, his eyes were open and his legs up. At 5:45 he was sitting up with his head in his hands. At 5:55, he went to use the toilet. At 6:10, he was back in bed with legs up and eyes open. All in all, Fela may have had a good six hours of sleep although it was disturbed.

He seemed happy in the morning after asking for 5 when I came to greet him. He took a while to finish his supplements, fruit and tea and needed lots of prompting. He was down for breakfast at 9:30, but he has a spring in his step so should be okay for a morning walk.

*Kindly note that I put some cotton,  ankle socks on Fela because he pointed to the dry skin on the soles of his feet. After applying sudocrem to them, I did not want him to get it on the floor when he went to brush his teeth before bed.

*It may be that Fela slept slightly better with socks on, so we could implement this, especially as he has his legs up a lot in bed lately and is prone to cold feet.
