19/09/2021 – Sleep shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

After Fela came out the bath at 22:00, I put a light bandage on using swabs on the keloids after cream applied then I cut the bandage rather than using a full roll. I applied hypafix then used clinepore tape to secure the hypafix. Fela was in bed by 22:25 with fan, eye mask, socks. I applied a sleep oil blend of lavender and camomile mixed in a base of almond oil to his chest, back, inner arms and forehead to help him sleep since he did not get any exercise and seemed a bit hyper.

I next heard Fela just before 7:00. He has been vocal since waking and the bandage had been removed from his head. I prompted him to the loo, then on his return he had his refreshments. whilst having them, I read the poem about different friends and explained about Nadia having to go and look after other people. I also showed him her picture. I kept this brief then moved on to another subject. We also said two prayers for friends and the new day. I read him the Bible story about Gideon’s army.

Fela became agitated when he came out the shower as he couldn’t stop sweating and the more he became agitated, the more he sweated. We went through several towels just trying to get him dry enough to dress. It took 30 minutes for him to calm down sufficiently for me to be able to get him dressed, brush his teeth and down for breakfast at 8:30. I was unable to put a bandage on as he was sweating too much.

Claire and Dan came to collect him at 9:20, we had a quick handover and they left around 9:30 to take him home. He seemed calmer but still vocal. He could probably benefit from some exercise.

*Please note that I have kept Fela’s v-shaped pillow because I suspect he may be using it to prop himself up in bed when he sleeps which means he may not beĀ  getting a good sleep. This can lead to back and neck strain. It is important that Fela is prompted to lie his head flat on the pillow when putting him to bed.
