20/06/2021 – Morning & Afternoon shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

I asked Michael to do a report on behalf of both of us yesterday because I was having to take frequent breaks to try calling my Dad who lives overseas. Unfortunately, I did not get through but it took up quite a bit of time.

I am writing my report here to include the highlights:

  • Fela was quite snotty on arrival, and he had a late breakfast so instead of snack, I offered him a footspa with a small handful of Epsom salts. I was on the hot side to begin with, and he soaked his feet for a good 40 minutes.
  • Whilst soaking his feet,  prompted him to colour two images from coloringhome.com for Fathers Day. he really seemed to enjoy this. I left the sharpeners with him so he could sharpen pencils to his heart’s delight. I also left a bag for the sharpening remains.
  • The Breathe church service was playing in the background on youtube, I think Fela was more interested in the colouring.
  • We practised the sign for ‘Happy Fathers Day’ after looking it up on youtube – makaton with Lucinda.
  • Lunch was very special as we had colcannon with savoy cabbage, spring onions and a hint of garlic;  and Fela had a 20 oz T-bone steak. Michael had also made us chocolate cupcakes, blueberries and lemon drizzle cake. What a treat!
  • After lunch, we took photos and chatted whilst Michael opened his presents. when I asked Fela to choose one present from the table, and take to Michael, he chose cards on two separate occasions. He definitely seems to have a preference for cards over presents.
  • We did the board but Fela rejected a nap. He had a call from his dad no.1 who sang lots of songs to him from his childhood.
  • Fela had been scratching his keloids quite a bit, and eventually asked for a facial trim. He enjoyed it so much he kept asking for more.
  • He also requested a pedicure so I gave him one and focused on the exfoliation with electrical loofah and pumice stone. He really love this.
  • Fela did not seem keen on dancing or bouncing on the gym ball so I prompted him to play on his tongue drum whilst I cleared up the kitchen.
  • Michael offered to sit with Fela during dinner, then afterwards he offered him a DVD. Fela chose ‘Aladdin’ so it took up the rest of the evening until 20:45 just before bath-time. It’s a long, musical adaptation so ideally I would have stopped it by 20:00 so Fela could have something more soothing to listen to as he would down for bed. Fela was very much focused so I decided to let it run.
  • Towards the end of the film, Fela signed for sleep so I knew he was looking forward to bedtime.

All in all, it was a good day but it seemed to go on forever no doubt due to the Summer equinox. Fela was signing for food a lot and scratching his keloids a lot so maybe he was using food as a distraction from the itching.

Arousal States – Start: 2a – Vocal End: 1 Baseline Did his state change? Yes to 1 Baseline Fela was a combination of vocal bordering on very noisy and baseline throughout the shift. Did he have a bowel movement? Yes Bristol score: Was Fela incontinent?: No Did he have vigorous exercise?: No – Why no exercise? It was a hot day with many extra things to do for Fathers Day. by the time I cam downstairs at 19:15 after Michael has sat with him throughout dinner so I could have a break, he had finished dinner and Michael had offered him a DVD, so there was no time afterwards,
