22/07/2020 – Day & Evening shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

On my arrival at 10:00 Fela was all smiles even though he had been up since 3:00. He was listening to Ed Sheeran on youtube followed by a compilation of the 3 divas – Celine, Mariah and Whitney. I gave him a present of a foot file wrapped in brown paper which he opened enthusiastically. I did the board with him, and he seemed happy to go out on a walk with the promise of a pedicure with foot file on his return.

Fela walked with energy and was skipping in parts so we returned home in 25 minutes but at least he had worked up a sweat. Fela spent a long time in the loo on his return so we ended up having a late lunch just before 13:00. He enjoyed his leftover fish curry with noodles. Michael came around 13:30, and Fela had just finished having his pedicure and going over the laminated sheets showing the parts of the drum set. He was very excited at the prospect of going to drumming, and I took the opportunity to practise the makaton sign for drumming and teacher with him.

Before our departure, I offered him the choice of light trainers or sandals and he chose sandals. I had to prompt him to push his feet right in so he could fasten the velcro at the back. He had socks on with them – his choice. Fela did fabulously at drumming – he was especially good playing to a reggae tune, then Dan practised the meal time prayer and tried a few more tunes such as ‘Something in the air’ by Phil Collins. Because Fela’s session seemed to go by so quickly, and due to fela having to wait on more activities to resume, we decided to book a whole hour for next week.

On the way home, we drove to Leek to pick up some more sleep tincture. I rang Chloe to let her know we would be late returning. Fela requested a DVD and chose ‘Little Women’ from the red folder, so I promised it to him after dinner. He listened to jazz music whilst waiting for dinner. During dinner, we practise new signs for peanut butter, chicken to eat and beef.

Whilst I did my chores, he and Chloe settled down to watch the film. I gave him some aloe vera gel to self apply to his face as he was picking at his keloids a lot. I also did some HANDLE massage on his head. He really enjoyed his DVD, and Chloe and I have concluded that he is a secret romantic!

Fela is now in the bath as I prepare to leave. It has been a very positive day with no issues and lots of smiles and laughter.
