22/09/2019 – Day & Evening shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

Fela woke up with a smile on his face. He was very happy to see Adele – T for Trouble in makaton, and the two of them engaged in banter and dancing and Mr Motivator whilst Michael and I cleaned, tidied, baked and prepared Sunday lunch.

After Adele left, Fela became quite vocal so I spent the rest of the day in the lounge with him listening to music, finishing off Paddington 2 DVD and we had a mini church service just before his evening snack. We sang 4 hymns, I read from the Bible and we said two prayers and a benediction. He engaged very well.

Fela has been happy throughout the day  – he clearly benefitted from his lie-in and seems to have recovered from his sleep deficit. He was scratching his face throughout the day so I was constantly giving him cotton pads with witchhazel and mini pots of aloe gel and aloe propolis to self-administer plus a bag for rubbish. I would encourage staff to do this so he doesn’t have to wait on someone noticing he is in distress, and he can rub for as long as he wants to bring relief.

He is now in the bath relaxing. I ran it fairly hot, then encouraged him to test it and let me know if he needed more cold water. This also empowers Fela to decide how warm he wants the water to be, as a lukewarm bath is not so pleasant if you are in there for 45 minutes.

All in all, a pleasant day with Fela, Michael and Adele.
