23/04/2020 – Evening shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

Fela was very happy on arrival. After he took his shoes and hoodie off, I showed him the biscuits I had baked on the dining table so he opted to stay in the lounge rather than go upstairs  – I’m sure to be close to the biscuits. I put on some Stevie Wonder on youtube starting with ‘Happy Birthday to ya’ which is my favourite version of the song. We played it twice and Fela really enjoyed it, especially Mama’s crazy dancing. I finished putting up some decorations whilst dancing, and Fela enjoyed observing me.

We rang back Fela’s Dad No.1 so he could wish Fela ‘happy birthday’ and sing to him. Fela  appeared to be falling asleep. he really enjoyed his steak and chips dinner with Diane sauce, ketchup, , corn on the cob and grilled tomato with balsamic vinegar. Afterwords, he had a mini berry cobbler with ice cream and one orange and raisin biscuit.

After dinner which was lengthy, Fela opened his card from Nan Nan Hazel/Nanna Hazel and I read it to him. We tried ringing her back as she had rung this morning to wish him a happy birthday just before he left Green Pastures. We did not get a connection, so we rang Uncle Chris who had also rang earlier after Fela had left. Fela enjoyed eavesdropping on the conversation, but was looking very tired. He requested the toilet and then to sit on the red settee. He has been picking his keloids a lot so I gave him some witchhazel on a cotton pad for him to self apply for the second time this evening.

Fela had a late snack just to keep him going overnight, and entered the bath at 21:20. He was out of the bath at 22:05 but did not complete his evening routine and was not in bed until 22:50. He became very absent-minded in the bathroom as if he was reflecting on the day, or was half-asleep. I rubbed his chest, back and forehead with Tiger balm which he thoroughly enjoyed as usual. I heard him cough briefly twice in the evening which is probably due to the drop in pollen and the temperature after dusk.

All in all, he has had a positive day and from all accounts, a very happy birthday but with a slow start and finish.

Arousal States – Start: 1 Baseline End: 1 Baseline Did his state change? No to Did he have a bowel movement? No Bristol score: Was Fela incontinent?: No Did he have vigorous exercise?: No – Why no exercise? Dinner was delayed and then we had to make some international call backs to family members who had rang earlier in the day to wish Fela a happy birthday.
