When I arrived just after 10:00, Fela was upstairs having a shower. I had a handover with Zoe that Fela had not slept well with around four hours of broken sleep. After Zoe left, Claire assisted Fela in finishing his morning routine. He was processing very slowly. I made him porridge with banana topping and a sprinkle of cinnamon, green tea which he seemed to enjoy.
After breakfast, we did the board with Fela whilst he listened to Smooth FM. We offered him the choice between walk or bike ride. He chose bike ride. We got the bikes, helmets, his gloves and bags ready. Fela used the loo and ha a bowel movement with a bit of blood. We set off at 12:15. We did a mixture of walking with bikes and cycling to Chatterley Whitfield and back though Norton Heights and Ford Green. At Chatterley Whitfield entrance, Fela was offered the choice between going home or more cycling, and he was keen to continue so we ventured down a pebble path to the right and on the outskirts of Chatterley Whitfield. It took us to the entrance on Whitfield Road where we turned back.
Throughout our journey, we had to weave in and out of human traffic as there were lots of people on the path. I was the outrider responsible for shouting instructions of “right, left, slow down, breaks” etc to Fela and Claire behind me. We also had to cross some roads including the main road – Ford Green Road where I prompted Fela to press the button at the Crossing and wait for the ‘green man’. When crossing the roads we prompted Fela to look “right, left and right again” which is safe practice.
We returned home at 13:25. all in all we exercised for about 1 hour 5 minutes since we stopped for water breaks and towelling down for a total of 5 minutes. Fela did wonderfully well, but was noisy throughout. I suspect he will soon quieten from an endorphin high and exhaustion as I am quite exhausted myself.
On return home, Angelia was already there and had prepared lunch of one of Fela’s faves – peanut butter and jam sandwiches. Claire prompted him to change his clothes whilst I put the bikes away and watered the outdoor plants. All in all, a lovely and adventurous morning with Fela and Claire.
