25/12/2020 – Day shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

Fela was calm when he arrived with Michael at 9:45. He only paused to ring the doorbell. I helped him remove his coat, hat, scarf and shoes then he opted to go upstairs to use the loo. Afterwards he signed  for the loo and pointed upstairs. After the loo, he chose to stay on the red settee upstairs so I did the board with him upstairs. He was happy with everything.

Whilst jazz music was playing softly in the background, I read him the nativity story with makaton symbols. He seemed to rush this but afterwards, I prompted him to match the cards of words and objects from the story using cards. He really enjoyed this, and was smiling and concentrating a lot. This engaged him for over an hour. I  gave him lots of praise as we were doing it.

*It was 11:00 when we finished so I offered Fela a snack – choice of apple or nuts; juice or tea. He chose nuts and juice. Whilst he was having his snack I went to have a quick shower and get dressed.

Afterwards, I offered to give him a hair cut – nothing too dramatic, just a tidy up on number 3 of the trimmer. He clearly enjoyed it. I then proceeded to give him a manicure which was long overdue.

we ate lunch at 12:5o:

20 oz t-bone steak

sweet potato fries

brussels sprouts

kale pesto, ketchup

mushrooms, onions and garlic sauteed

homemade christmas pudding and vanilla ice cream

2x glass water; appletizer

We opened crackers just before the pudding. After lunch, we managed to make our way to the lounge without passing out from a food coma. We then opened presents with Christmas hymns playing in the background. There were so many, and I insisted on taking photos so this took over an hour. Fela was a good sport but Michael fell asleep.

*Thanks to you all for all the lovely, thoughtful presents to Fela and us.

I offered Fela a cup of pear and apple green tea around 15:15 after we finished opening presents. We then called his Dad #1 so  he could have a quick chat. He was singing many songs from Fela’s childhood and Fela was tapping his feet.

We then put on some  music on youtube for dancing  e.g. Stevie wonder, Boyz 2 Men, Bill Withers. Fela was content to watch me dance as he had his legs up on the armchair. We received a phone call from Uncle Chris in New York just before Claire and Adele arrived. Fela was quite sluggish but eventually got up do use the loo and put his shoes and coat on. He returned home with his leftover Christmas pudding and lots of presents around 17:15.

*The Pinocchio DVD was returned with Fela as it’s recommended for his film matinee tomorrow. The other DVDs have been kept here to be uploaded to PLEX.

All in all, Fela had a fantastic day. I’m sure he will cherish the happy memories but let’s hope they don’t keep him up tonight.
