26/04/2021 – Afternoon shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

I  arrived at Fela’s house around 13:00 to relieve Michael. Fela was just finishing his lunch and seemed reluctant to take off his apron. After Michael left, he became a bit agitated as he was transitioning from the dining table to the lounge. I had just finished applying some tiger balm to his forehead and behind his ears as I noticed he was slapping his forehead. Within 10 minutes he calmed.

I put some relaxing seaside nature sounds on – this seemed to help him to calm. I did the board with Fela and he seemed happy. We started playing cards together – I counted as we took turns dealing. I also names the card by number or letter. Michael surprised us to inform us that Teresa wasn’t coming in for her shift. So, once Barbra had left, I did the board with Fela again to indicate that we would go for a drive then spend the rest of the afternoon at Green Pastures.

*Fela has spent a lot of time on the loo today as if he wanted to be alone, and also he has been processing slowly. There were times when he looked sleepy but he didn’t have a nap. He has also been picking his keloids a lot.

Fela was demanding a lot of food at snack time, and after his mixed nuts and wasabi peas, he marched me downstairs to get out  bowl and then to the fridge for yogurt with a teaspoon of pomegranate syrup – his latest fixation. He makes a sign as if he is peeling something which is obviously the yogurt pot.

I managed to get him to do some colouring of  two Trolls pictures from coloringhome.com. I forgot to pack the Trolls story and we ran out of time for a proper story before dinner so read him his small book of prayers to Jesus with makaton symbols. they were prayers of gratitude for various things e.g. Mum, Dad, carers, walks in the park, trips in the car, favourite books and DVDs. He enjoyed this very much.

Fela became a bit agitated at the dinner table – I think because he wanted to dip his chips in his glass of water and I was giving him stern looks, so in the end I just ignored him, and he seemed to calm.

He was not keen on dancing or bouncing on the gym ball after dinner so we just watched the youtube videos of boybands e.g. Westlife, N’Sync and Backstreet Boys, and singers e.g. Michael Bolton. After his evening kalms and snack, I managed to give him a quick facial trim.

We left him with Emma just after 21:00 and he was just about to get in the bath. He seemed calm and content.
