After Zoe and Chloe brought Fela to Green Pastures at 14:00, he went into the kitchen and requested a lemon and ginger tea. Michael made it for him then offered him a DVD. He chose ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood’.
Because it was so hot, I helped Fela to remove his socks carefully so as not to remove the bandage on the right foot. Removing his socks helps to keep him cool. I did the board so Fela could see what was happening whilst he was at Green Pastures.
Michael brought his computer down and sat with Fela whilst he watched the film. I checked on him from time to time. I offered him a cotton pad with witch hazel to wipe his skin as he was picking it a lot.
I brought Fela his snack and showed him the makaton sign for snack. I typed and printed out what he ate for his snack as well as the mealtime grace – ‘Dear God, Thank you for all the wonderful food…’ Michael and I agreed to just let Fela chill out because it was so hot, so I did not press him to do writing after the film.
Michael offered him another film ‘Aladdin’ which he started but 45 minutes in, he requested music. I showed him the two TEACCH board cards for DVD and music for him to choose just to be sure. He chose music, so we put on ‘Burt Bacharach’ from his collection on PLEX.
Emma and Teresa arrived soon after to pick him up. He seemed content to leave to return home as indicated on the board. I had also shown him the social story for ‘sleeping at his house’ during the second film so he was clear about what was happening.
