After Fela took off his coat and shoes, Michael offered him a DVD and he chose the new ‘Aladdin’ which he got for Christmas. It was too late to go to church as Michael and I focused on getting Sunday lunch ready.
I rang Nanna Hazel whilst we were cooking as I wanted to get her before she left her room for breakfast at the hotel in Puerto Rico. I put the DVD on cause so that Fela could listen into the conversation whilst he was having his cnack. He likes listening to his Nanna’s voice.
Fela enjoyed his lunch very much especially the roast chicken and the berry crumble courtesy of Zoe. After dinner, I prompted Fela to open his presents from Emma. He enjoyed opening them – thanks Emma. I asked Fela if he wanted to go upstairs or stay downstairs. He chose to go upstairs and I engaged him in card games whilst we listened to ‘Dr Sax’ Christmas songs on youtube. I gave him his juice snack and then encouraged him to lie down on the red settee as his eyes were getting heavy. He was making quite a bit of vocalisations for about 20 minutes then he was quiet so I left him for another 4o minutes but did not let him sleep past 4.3opm.
On waking him he still chose to lie down but had a big smile on his face. I read some poems and prayers to him by Helen Steiner Rice. He was picking his face a lot so I offered to trim his facial hair. He enjoyed this very much then I gave him witchhazel to dab on his face.
After his dinner, we had a candle light service with Bible reading and prayers. Fela enjoyed this very much. We then danced together for 15 minutes to songs by Joe Cocker and Michael Bolton.
All in all, Fela had a positive day and was in a good mood throughout. We took him back home around 9pm and then left him with Emma having just got in the bath.
