31/05/2020 – Day shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

Fela arrived at Green Pastures just after 9:30. He was cool and calm. After spending some time on the bench downstairs, he went upstairs and requested music. I did the board with him so he would be clear about how the day would unfold. He seemed happy with the activities.

He listened to jazz cafe music on youtube, until snack time, after which we switched to Kanye West sunday service. He seemed to enjoy it – some parts more than others. We played cards – dealing, counting, shuffling and sorting into piles until lunch at 12:30. Fela really enjoyed his lamb chops with salad and sweet potato fries. This was followed by a cookie, cake and ice cream. He made his usual request for juice as he was getting up from the table, then he was content to sit in the arm chair and listen to Smooth FM radio.

Fela was picking his keloids so much that the left side bled, so we gave him witchhazel on cotton pads and the aloe vera leaf to rub on to the area. This helped the bleeding to stop. I put two plasters over the area of open skin so as to prevent infection.

Before his snack, I cut  his hair, and after I cut his fingernails, cleaned them properly with witchhazel, and applied Australia emu oil, a thick oil, which helps to create a barrier of protection and accelerate healing.

As 16:30 approached, Fela began to fall asleep, but I managed to stir him. Chloe and Claire arrived soon after and he was happy to leave for home.

*I noticed that Fela was swirling his fingers in the toilet water with urine. We must resist the natural urge to shout at him to stop, as this might alarm him and lead to an incident. He does not understand that this water is dirty and harmful, and is causing his fingernails to develop ridges and become discoloured.
