31/08/2021 – Day shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

Fela arrived at Green Pastures around 9:20. He chose to go upstairs, and Michael put some jazz music on for him. He had been asking Michael for juice in the car so I gave him some grape juice diluted. We did the board and he was happy to play on his tongue drum until snacktime.

After his snack, we got ready to go to Brough park for a walk. We decided to order some lunch from the white Hart tea room in Leek. We walked up and down the slopes, past the playground and beside the lake for about 20 minutes. Fela worked up quite a sweat. After collecting the takeaway, we drove to Birchall Playing fields and had a picnic on the bench overlooking the field. We all had soup for starters which was nice and warming. Unfortunately, they forgot to pack Fela’s gravy so he had to dunk his chips in the remainder of the sweet potato and tomato soup. Nevertheless, he seemed to enjoy his lunch.

We changed Fela’s tops as we were about to leave as they were quite sweaty. In the process the bandages came loose so we re-bandaged him on the bench.

*It might be an idea to travel with dressings and the necessary implements just in case they need changing when you are away from the house.

On returning home, I prompted Fela to change his bottoms and remove his socks. He became mentally stuck on the landing so I asked him if he wanted a story or nap. He chose nap so I did the board then prepared the room and settee. I let him rest from 3-4pm. I heard him very briefly at 3.30 pm but when I went to check on him, he had fallen back asleep.

At 4pm I went up to wake him; and he was quick to sit up. I gave him his antibiotic capsule followed by fruit salad and some yogurt and diluted juice. Whilst waiting on Claire and Zoe to arrive as they were held up in traffic, I was able to give him a quick pedicure. He requested ice lolly so I offered him one from the freezer – mango, orange and passion fruit. Yummy!

Michael, Zoe and Claire had a detailed handover whilst I chatted with Fela. I said the ‘Day is done’ prayer and we started one of the stories for the week – ‘A Baker’s Story’. Fela was baseline when they all left at 5.30pm.
