This Native American medicinal plant is primarily used in stimulating immune function. It also prevents and treats the common cold and other respiratory conditions. It is also effective in relieving anxiety.
Fela suffers with seasonal hayfever especially from grass pollen. This means that his immune system is dysfunctional in some way. Fela takes a number of supplements to boost his immune system – together they act synergistically which means that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their separate effects.
Normally the body produces its own remedy to counteract the production of histamine. Histamine is produced when antibodies attack a foreign substance in the body – in this case pollen. When the immune system is dysfunctional, it may not be able to neutralise this histamine e.g. if the liver is unable to produce enough antihistamine. This results in symptoms such as swelling and inflammation e.g. in the nasal passages.
Pharmaceutical antihistamines usually have undesirable side effects e.g. drowsiness or brain fog, and so are avoided for Fela.
