03/08/2021 – Morning & Afternoon shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

Michael and I arrived at 8:20 to take Fela’s car to the garage for its service and MOT. This had been pre-arranged. Zoe handed over that Fela had slept through the night. Whilst we were gone, Zoe gave Fela the choice between gym and Brough park. On our return just after 9:00, we were told that Fela chose the gym.

We headed straight to the gym and arrived at 9:25.  Fela completed 40 minutes on the machines. He rushed through the bikes and  skaters and was signing a lot for food. As we were headed to wards the hall, he suddenly dragged me  by the hand into the health suite and proceeded to remove his clothes. Michael went to ask the front desk if he could book a session, but there was someone who had booked a session to begin in 10 minutes. Fela went into the sauna for 5 minutes with a clean pair of pants on, then he changed without showering in 5 minutes. We left just as the person arrived for his session.

*In future, I will book health spa sessions of 30 minutes when Fela is due to go to the gym so he can be packed and prepared just in case he wants to go in.

Fela had his snack on the way home. For the rest of the day, he:

  • played with his tongue drum
  • played with his poppette new toy.
  • had a manicure.
  • watched T.D. Jakes.
  • We practised the makaton signs for body parts and medical.
  • I started reading the story of Paddington’s Visit to the hospital. there were a lot of big words but I repeated the words I thought he knew and did the signs for them to help make the story come alive. I stopped at the point where the receptionist at the hospital is about to send Paddington to the psychiatry ward due to a misunderstanding. I don’t think Fela got the joke!
  • we went to pick up the car from the garage and take it to Fela’s house.
  • I administered some skull tapping and head massage.
  • played with his tongue drum again on request.

Fela’s keloids were dripping a lot so new plasters had to be applied more than four times; also, aloe vera leaves were sliced and given to him to rub on them. The smell was quite pungent. The air diffuser and candles were used to counteract the smell. Also his shirt was changed twice due to the drips from the keloids falling on to them.

Fela is currently relaxing in the bath. He has been in a good mood, but lots of fidgeting and signing for food. he has coped well with his keloids and seems to like the plasters being changed.
