06/11/2021 – Morning & Afternoon shift – carla cornelius

Shift Report:

Fela was relatively calm on arrival though quite vocal. The highlights of his day were as follows:

  • I gave him a facial trim.
  • I made him a banana and chocolate cake so that he could enjoy licking the mixing bowl which he did.
  • I prompted him to lied down on the red settee upstairs and have a nap. I rubbed him with his sleep oil but after 30 minutes, it was clear that he had no intention of sleeping due to his vocal sounds.
  • He played on his tongue drum to the background music of ‘Simply Red’ in concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
  • After lunch, I administered echinacea x 2 capsules as I had to prompt him to blow his nose before lunch.
  • I offered him the choice between DVD or T.D. Jakes. He chose both but T.D. Jakes preaching first so I put them both on the board.
  • I prompted him to release the foot rest on the armchair, tucked his legs in with a blanket, and applied Olbas oil to his forehead, behind his ears and neck as I noticed his nose was still slightly drippy.
  • I stewed some of the last apples picked from our garden to make apple sauce. I then offered this to him as  snack. It was still hot from the pan, and he really enjoyed this.
  • I read through the list of his films on plex and asked him to point to the one he wanted As I scrolled through and read out the title. He didn’t point to any so I eventually asked him if he wanted ‘the Miracle Maker’ as I don’t think he has ever seen it. There were parts of it where he was completely silent.
  • I gave him a head massage with a special comb whilst he was watching it. He was silent throughout.
  • He thoroughly enjoyed his dinner of T-bone steak and all the trimmings followed by an ice cream cone with two flavours.
  • I let his food settle for 30 minutes then I helped him to put on the shoulder massager which he used for 30 minutes with background relaxing jazz with falling autumn leaves.
  • After his kalms and snack, he continued listening to music then we got ready to return home.
  • We arrived around 20:45 and were greeted by Claire. After a brief handover, we left just after 21:00 when Fela was just about to enter the bath. He was calm and in a good mood.
