Fela was happy and quiet on my arrival. After a quick handover with Dan, I did the board with him, and he seemed happy with all the activities. The highlights of his day were:
- He pointed to his tongue drum and signed for his tray so I brought his drum and sticks and he started playing to ‘So Cool’ CD on Plex followed by Fourplay jazz in concert on youtube.
- Michael came at 11:00 to await the delivery of Fela’s new chair. Soon afterwards we left for the gym where Fela worked out for 45 minutes: ski machine, hand cycle, rowing, treadmill and bicycle. Unfortunately, we could not access the sauna as it was out of commission due to repairs. Fela seemed okay with this. We changed him in the disability loo as he was soaking with sweat.
- On return home, Michael was cooking lunch – Fela’ s favourite: pasta, pesto and sardines in tomato sauce. The chair arrived so after removing the packaging, I encouraged Fela to sit on it and he had his supplements. I showed him how to swivel around and told him that rocking back and forth was finished.
- After lunch, Fela was beginning to look tired so we did the board again, and I offered him a nap. He chose T.D. Jakes from the folder so after his food settled, I prompted him to lie down on the settee, I tucked him in and reduced the volume on the T.V to ’10’. Unfortunately, Fela did not sleep as I think he overheard Marc and me talking in the staff room. After 40 minutes, he was sitting up so we opened the curtains.
- We decided to let him continue watching T.D. Jakes then we would try some makaton, then connecting the dots and colouring. I went upstairs to do some chores and deep cleaning.
When Emma arrived, I was still upstairs. Before departing, I had a quick handover with Emma and Marc, and said goodbye to Fela. He was looking lethargic, and did not want to get up from the settee or relinquish the blanket so I exchanged it for a cooler one. He insisted on putting his socks back on as I had prompted him to remove them before his nap.
*Because Fela woke up around 3:00 and did not get a proper nap, he may be lethargic and out of sorts for the rest of the day.
