Day Shift Report – Support Worker
Today’s shift began with a handover from Shahab, during which all necessary updates about Fela’s care were communicated. After receiving the handover, we completed the routine petty cash check, ensuring everything was in order and signing accordingly. Shortly after, Mama called to provide guidance on Fela’s plan for the day, advising us on how best to support him.
Fela was sitting in the lounge, appearing calm and settled. While he relaxed, I proceeded with household chores to maintain a clean and organized environment. Meanwhile, Dan updated the TEACCH board then prepared the lunch that we were scheduled to take with us for the outing. Once the chores were completed, we offered Fela a snack and a drink to keep him hydrated and comfortable before engaging in any activities.
To promote physical activity, we supported Fela in completing a “Walk at Home” exercise session, which he participated in well. Following this, we helped him get ready for his podiatry appointment, ensuring he was dressed appropriately and had everything he needed. We then traveled to the appointment, where we met Mama at the podiatrist’s office. The session went smoothly, and Fela cooperated well during the visit.
After the appointment, Fela had his lunch in the car before we headed back home. Mama advised us to offer him a nap once we returned to ensure he had adequate rest. Upon arrival, we encouraged Fela to relax and prepare for a nap, but he repeatedly requested “five more minutes” and ultimately declined to sleep. Despite gentle encouragement, he remained awake and engaged in quiet activities instead.
While Fela was resting in the lounge, we conducted an inventory check of the shopping to assess what supplies were available. During the check, we identified some items that needed to be ordered from Tesco. Once the inventory was completed, we sent a report to Mama via email, detailing the items that were running low and required restocking.Fela also declined makaton session.
Later in the afternoon, Fela was offered a snack and a drink, which he accepted well. While Dan was preparing dinner,Fela engaged in his foot physiotherapy exercises, which he completed successfully.
Kingsley then arrived for the evening and sleep shift. I provided a full handover, ensuring all necessary details were shared, and the petty cash check was completed. Before leaving, I waved at Fela, who appeared calm and settled.
Overall, it was a productive and smooth shift with no major concerns.
