After collecting Fela from his home, we headed towards Flip Out in Stone. I had a quick handover from Teresa, then I used the ‘Now and Next’ cards to ask Fela if he wanted to go trampolining then back to Mama and Michael’s. We arrived at 10:00, and they were not yet open but opened after we pressed the reception buzzer. We managed to negotiate a special offer from the duty manager – £12 including complimentary drinks.
Fela jumped for 20 minutes and then signed finished. He did remarkably well considering that it was very hot. We then headed upstairs for the cafe for our free drinks. After checking out the ingredients, Fela was able to have the volvic orange which he thoroughly enjoyed with his red skinned peanuts.
*The duty manager informed us that the ASD sessions will resume after the Summer holidays. I will need to ring Head Office to find out what the cost of the ASD sessions will be, and to negotiate a good price for Fela to attend the mainstream sessions as he did today.
Michael drove us home the scenic route through the countryside of Stone into Cheddleton and through Leek. Fela seemed to enjoy both journeys, and was smiling from time to time.
On return home, we had lunch of leftover chicken fajita and barbecue with sweet potato fries. After lunch, I did the board and Fela chose the tongue drum so he played on and off for over an hour. I then gave him a manicure which he had requested followed by a pedicure. Nanna Hazel rang for a brief call so she didn’t speak to Fela but sent him love. Afterwards I read some poems about Summertime to Fela, and I did some signing of some of the words in the poem e.g. sun, sunshine, wind, grapes. Fela found this quite amusing to see me dramatizing the poems. This was followed by a session of signing to makaton videos – signs for summer, sea, waves, sun hat, garden, and a recap of different fruit. Fela found this very engaging.
After dinner, Fela was content to sit and watch me dancing; he joined me for a brief dance when the song ‘Return of the Mack’ came on. He kept getting up to touch the tv to indicate which song he wanted next from the recommended videos so I had to remind him to be gentle.
Fela is currently relaxing in the bath. All in all, he has been baseline throughout the day but became happily vocal after 2.30pm after he had a brief 1 minute doze when playing on the tongue drum. He has been picking at his keloids all afternoon so I have been giving him aloe leaves constantly to rub into his keloids. There have been lots of smiles throughout the day.
